Energy Focus – Latest Issue

This month, we were at Solar & Storage Live in Birmingham – one of the UK’s most important exhibitions for the meeting and sharing of ideas around solar PV rollout and BESS discussion. My colleague Joel was front row, interviewing, talking, and undercovering more about the big projects and tech to come in 2027.

During his discussions, a golden thread became clear; probably something that is well-known across the industry – the UK still has so much potential to rollout solar energy solutions and, despite having a mature solar industry, the country is only at the tip of the iceberg in terms of what is possible. Our changing weather patterns and the changing demand for secure electricity are helping solar to emerge as one of the most obvious choices for renewable baseload.

EDF power solutions Onsite Power is well aware of this and is promoting its ability to quickly and cost effectively put solar panels on rooftops, integrate with BESS and EV charging, and help to solve energy transition and decarbonisation challenges for its clients. Business Development Director, Kerry Mullen, gives us further insight.

Ecotricity, another major UK player – and well-known as a green powerhouse – is prepping for it’s largest generating asset, one that will be ten times bigger than all of its other assets combined. This solar park in Lincolnshire, Heckington Fen, is a 1000MW project that CEO Asif Rehmanwala calls “game changing”.

In Scotland, Greencat Contracting is preparing itself for the next stage in its growth as it aims for involvement in the country’s transition. It has the proven ability to work on wind, solar, hydrogen, and a range of other projects thanks to a skillset that most others could only dream of. GM Harry McGurnaghan tells us that the company is part of a wider group that is clear-eyed about driving renewable energy projects in Scotland and across the UK.

If Solar & Storage Live is anything to go by, there is major appetite for innovation and development in the industry across the UK. Extrapolate that across Europe and beyond and you see an industry that still has so much room for growth within a larger sector that has the ability to change lives. And that is an exciting prospect.
