Energy Focus – Latest Issue

At Energy Storage Germany in June, there is a lot of talk about how the superior German grid can accommodate new technology while engineering upgrades at a rate not seen before. Like many top European economies, Germany is expecting solar, wind, and other renewable sources (including hydrogen) to make up more of its mix in the future – but not decades from now; perhaps in the next few years. This means, to ensure stability, storage is next on the national agenda.

Martin Daronnat, Head of Flexibility & Structured Origination for ENGIE Global Energy Management & Sales in Germany, will speak at the event and highlight the need for battery energy storage systems to become investible assets, that managers compete for, to assist in development of flexibility across the country.

Elsewhere across Europe, the renewable energy transition continues despite headwinds. Arenso is helping to develop offshore wind assets in Arctic waters, Suomen Voima is backing projects in Finland, and the Wergeland Group is embracing net zero at its site in the western Norwegian fjords. In the UK, Shawton Energy is helping to decarbonise operations for a number of big-name clients as it installs and manages rooftop solar but with an engineering approach above all else. BlueHeart Energy is developing new engines for heat pumps in the Netherlands, making them incredibly efficient and effective. Each explains more about what, why, and how, and we hear from those pushing the progress.

All of these innovations, ideas, and projects are driving the industry forward with less emissions, more competence, and more attractive to investors and regulators. While every little helps, the big ideas deliver the largest payload, and that is important.
